My good friend Ana Juan invited me one afternoon to her studio in Madrid, it was a pleasure to visit her and do this little photo shoot.
She studied at the BBAA in the former Superior School of Fine Arts between 1977 and 1981.
In 1983, she moved to Madrid where she became well-known in publications such as Madriz and La Luna and collaborations with the newspapers El País and El Mundo. Since then she has worked internationally illustrating books, posters and advertising campaigns for Renfe and American Airlines.
Her most notable works for The New Yorker magazine, for which she has contributed 25 covers,include the commemorations of the attacks of 11S and Solidaritée, produced following the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine in January 2015.
She is the author of children’s books such as Frida and The Night Eater, which received the Ezra Jacks Keats prize, 2004 (USA) and has illustrated books for adults such as Snow White and Demeter. She also collaborates with Amnesty International on projects such as Eleanor’s Dream, which celebrates the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights or IWelcome on the tragedy of refugees.
In 2011, she was awarded the National Illustration Prize awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and in 2012 she received the San Carlos Medal awarded by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Valencia.
Ana Juan has put on numerous exhibitions in Spain, New York, Mexico and Tokyo. The last of these is an interactive exhibition drawing on the other side, where different technologies such as virtual reality and videogames are integrated, giving her work linked to paper a new dimension.

An afternoon with Ana Juan / Una tarde con Ana Juan
Mi buena amiga Ana Juan me invitó una tarde a su estudio madrileño, fue todo un placer visitarla y hacerle esta pequeña sesión fotográfica.
Realizó estudios de BBAA en la antigua Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes entre 1977 y 1981.
En 1983, se trasladó a Madrid donde se dió a conocer en publicaciones como Madriz y La Luna y colaboraciones con los periódico El País y El Mundo. Desde entonces, ha trabajado internacionalmente ilustrando portadas de libros, carteles y campañas publicitarias para Renfe o American Airlines.
Destacados son sus trabajos para The New Yorker revista para la que ha contribuido con 25 portadas, entre ellas las conmemorativas por los atentados del 11S y Solidaritée, realizada con la ocasión del atentado a la revista Charlie Hebdo en enero 2015.

Ana Juan, ha realizado numerosas exposiciones tanto en España como en New York, México o Tokio. La última de ellas una exposición interactiva Ana Juan, dibujando al otro lado, donde se integran diversas tecnologías como la realidad virtual y el video juego dando a su trabajo ligado al papel una nueva dimensión.
